Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s pie is a thick layer of ground meat and veggies topped with mashed potatoes and baked in the oven until the mashed potatoes are golden brown & the cheese is melted!

Shepherd’s pie is sometimes also called cottage pie!

When you dig in you get a spoonful of mashed potatoes, some crispy bits of meat and veggies all in one bite! We keep the meat flavors rustic with a few spices for flavoring! Creamy mashed potatoes are easy to make with a secret ingredient of either milk or cream making mashed potatoes a notch creamier!

  • Preheat the oven to 400F
  • Spread the prepared meat on a large baking dish
  • Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat. Rough up the surface with a fork so that the potatoes get browned. Layer with grated cheese and bake for 20-30 minutes
  • Broil for about 1-2 minutes for a nice golden brown color on the potatoes and the cheese!

PRO TIPS

  • You can use any ground meat of your choice or even a mixture of ground pork with ground beef or ground chicken with ground lamb! Don’t forget a few veggies like carrots and/or green peas
  • You can altogether skip the ground meat section and replace with diced potatoes or any other veggie of your choice however shepherd pie is not shepherd’s pie without the ground meat! It would then be a veggie pie
