Breadsticks, also known as grissini, grissino or dipping sticks, are generally pencil-sized sticks of crisp, dry baked bread that originated in Italy.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour

  • 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 8 grams active dry yeast

  • 1 ⅓ cups water

Directions

  • Mix flour, oil, sugar, salt, yeast, and water into a large bowl and stir well to combine (the mixture should be sticky)
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set aside to let it rest for 1 hour
  • Preheat your oven to 350° F. Divide your dough into 30 equal sized balls (About 1 ounce each )
  • Working with 1 ball of dough at a time , roll and stretch dough into a 8-inch rope
  • Transfer the bread sticks to the parchment paper-lined baking sheets as done, keeping the ropes about 1 inch apart
  • Bake for about 25 minutes until light golden brown and crisp
  • Transfer to a rack to let cool

  • Serve warm with your favorite marina dripping sauce
